1993 NASCAR Winston Cup Series
Previous: 1992 Next: 1994
Champions | Seasons

The 1993 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Season was the 45th season of professional stock car racing in the United States and the 22nd modern-era Cup season. The season began on February 7 and ended on November 21. Kyle Petty of SABCO Racing won the championship.

The season also saw the introduction of electronic scoring, giving instantaneous interval numbers.

This was the first season without NASCAR legend Bobby Allison since 1960. It was also the first time a Mercury ran in the Wiston Cup Series since 1980.

Manufacturer notes[]

At the DieHard 500, Cale Yarborough Motorsports shocked the NASCAR world by fielding a Mercury Cougar. It was the first time a Mercury had run in the Winston Cup Series since 1980. The car had limited factory support in the form of sheetmetal, with the engine being the same Ford-Cosworth HC-1 they had been running in their Ford Thunderbirds.

1993 saw Dodge debut the brand-new Intrepid, a car that, during practice for the Busch Clash, was described as an "aerodynamic monster". It ended up being such an influential car that it sparked a Third Aero War by the time the 1990s had ended.
