Gibraltar - since 1704 occupied by Great Britain, since 1713 "forever" ceded officially by Spain, is still considered an impregnable fortress and is in World War II essential for the Empire, for controlling the western entry of the Med. Two bataillons of infantry and some artillery are defending the fortress currently, reinforcements are expected. There are numerous underground tunnels and galleries, which are even more fortified than the Maginot Line, and enough food to last for 18 months, for 10,000 men. Squadron No. 202 already was moved there. Gouvernor General Sir Clive Liddell has been preparing evacuating the civil population to Casablanca in French Morocco, which happened in June.
