Kim Il-sung (* April 15th, 1912 as Kim Song-ju in Mankeidai, then Japanese Empire) is a Communist Korean Revolutionary. His Family are Presbyterians, a Minority in Korea.
His Family is very strongly opposed to the Japanese occupation, which is why they moved to Manchuria around 1920. There, Kim learned Chinese and Russian. Before he was an adult, he already had joined the Communists, and was arrested in 1929 for this reason. After being released, he became a Partisan. In 1933/34, he was arrested by the Chinese and expelled from the Communist Party of China, because he was thought to be a pro-Japanese. In 1935, he used the name "Kim Il-sung" (meaning "Kim becomes the Sun") for the first time - there are claims that the Korean resistance leader Kim Kyung-cheon used it before him. Since the Japanese occupation of Manchuria, life there has become dangerous for him, which is why he often moves with his people to the territory of the Soviet Union, which is supporting them. In 1940, the Japanese estimate him to be the most dangerous Guerilla leader and call him the "Tiger".
His life Partner is Kim Jong-suk, who is pregnant in June 1940.
