The former empire of Korea has been a protectorate of Japan since 1905 and a full-fledged colony since 1910. The country's been renamed to "Chosen" officially, and all place names are read the Japanese way. At the Begin of World War II, General Jirō Minami is General governor.
Since the conquest, more than half a Million Japanese have been settled in the country, to whom more than Half of the agricultural land was given, and to whom the Korean peasants have to give more than the Half of the harvest. The country's supposed to become a "breadbasket" for Japan, Industrialisation's restricted to the latter. Speaking Korean is outlawed even in private, and the Regime has a spy network to control it. Since early 1940, the Koreans are pressured to adopt Japanese Names. Which doesn't mean that they'd gain equal rights with that, as shown by marriages between Japanese and Koreans being forbidden. Despite of this, there are Koreans - in 1940, some ten thousand - who are willing to fight for the Japanese, but not even 5% of them are accepted.
