The Kingdom of Thailand (until 1939, officially Siam) under Rama VIII (Ananda Mahidol) has reformed itself, following the example of Meiji Japan since the bloodless coup d'etat of 1932. The absolute monarchy became a constitutional one. So far, the country is considered peaceful (siding with the Allies in World War I was rather nominally), but the self-conscious Reformers now demand shifting their borders at the expense of nearby British and French colonies - Burma, Malaya and French Indochina. So far though, the country hasn't joined World War II yet.
In June 1940, the country made a treaty of friendship with Japan and a non-aggression pact with the Brits.
