In the Soviet Republic of Ukraine around 1940, Leonid Korniyets is the head of government, but in practice the First Secretary of the Communists, Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, has a lot to say.
After the Soviet victory together with Nazi Germany over Poland, the Ukraine received a good part of eastern Poland with the important city of Lemberg (aka Lvov/Lviv). Until June 1940, hundreds of thousands of Poles have been deported to Siberia already.
But people aren't just hate the regime in the annexed areas: Many haven't forgotten that the Soviet government is taking about 40% of the harvest from country (which has lots of grain), practically without giving anything in return, which caused the Holodomor in the 1930s, with several Million dead.
